Professional digital photo
printing uses color management systems to provide consistent
and accurate image characteristics in print reproductions.
Digital color management is a very complex concept, but if
basic methods of file management are followed throughout
the digital photo processing and printing workflow, the
print output results will be accurate with the digital
camera capture.
Digital photo files are embedded with precise definitions
for every characteristic of the photo image. These
definitions are called color profiles. Color profiles
define how software systems and hardware devices handle
and reproduce color and other image characteristics such
as brightness and contrast.
When you take a photo with your digital camera, every part
of the image is defined with the camera's color profile
setting. It is then the job of color management software
and settings to be sure all those image capture
characteristics are processed and printed accurately.
Usually, after downloading a digital photo file from the
camera, the next step would be to open that photo file in
an image editing software like Photoshop for digital photo
processing and possible enhancements. To be sure you are
viewing the actual photo accurately, the image editing
software must have color management policies enabled or
you may be viewing the photo with some default display
color profile. You should also be using a monitor that has
been calibrated and profiled or any digital processing or
enhancements made may not be displayed correctly.
The working space color profile of the image editing
software should be the same color profile as used by the
digital camera for the most accurate display. Software
conversion of color profiles is possible but for the most
consistent workflow, it is best to use the same profile
from capture to print. if your image editing software has
a soft proofing feature available, you should also enable
this feature with the same color profile as used with the
digital camera.
After you have finished any digital photo processing and
enhancements, the next and most important step, is to
utilize specific color management for professional digital
photo printing results. Professional photo printing
involves the merger of the photo's embedded color profile,
the color definition characteristics of the digital
printer inks used and the specific type of print media
used. Professional color management software takes into
account the specific characteristics and definitions of
all three variables in the digital photo printing equation
and produces digital photo prints that reproduce the
precise image that was originally captured by the digital
camera.
We utilize and completely reply on highly advanced color
management software included in our RIP software (raster
image processing), for accurate and precise professional
digital photo printing. All of our digital photo
processing and printing systems, including high resolution
monitors and image editing software, employ full color
management and color profiling features that are state of
the art.
